NEW COMPUTER TO ARRIVE TODAY

Published on January 22, 2015

My new computer arrives today if, as they say around here, "the good god is willing, and the creek don't rise," so I am already keeping an eye out for the FedEx truck. Let me tell you why I need it, and of course I have been telling myself this since day-one when I just up and ordered it. That's how I do things.

First I read, read, and read about it online, whatever purchase I have in mind. And then I tell myself it is just too expensive. And then I go ahead and order it.

Why I need it is because editing, compiling, and exporting video (which I am doing a lot of these days) just takes too long and can tie up my computer for hours or even days, while I wait. I can't really use the computer while it is doing all this because it slows down my cursor to almost nothing, until all it can do is make jerky motions on the screen. That's no good. So I do have a real need.

As for justifying the expense, well, this one has not only to be justified (I did that in my mind long ago), but I have to find the money for it. These high-tech machines, custom-built, are really expensive and I am now on a fixed income. What to do?

Well, what I'm doing is selling some of my precious camera-lens collection, one-by-one on Ebay. I tell myself that I am not really using these particular lenses anymore and I am not trying to start a lens museum, so something has to go. In this case it is some very nice lenses and I have already sold enough to cover half the computer's cost, with plenty more still waiting to be bought on Ebay. So that's how I'm doing it.

As for what I am getting, it is technical, but since some of my readers are technical, here is the overview of what's in the box:

Motherboard: Asus X99 Deluxe
CPU Intel Core i7 3.0 GHz 8-Core 20M 140W
w/ CPU overclocking
128 GB DDR4-2133 REG ECC
GPU Video Boards: Two PNY Quandro K5200 PCI-E 16GB
Root Drive: Samsung 850 Pro 512GB SATA 6Gb/s 2.5-inch SSD

And, I promise myself and I not going to install a whole lotta' junk on this machine. I am not. I am not. I am not.
