Nothing like getting sick to throw one off course and reshuffle the deck a bit. Sidelined for the moment, I peer down the track toward where I thought I was headed until it vanishes in the distance. Where was I going? I'm sure I don't know and does it really matter? I guess I was just going on my way to gone.
Getting sick, while painful, gave me a reprieve from the ordinary and woke me up a little -- so much business for so little reason. I am reminded of a poem by my favorite poet Gerard Manley Hopkins that expresses my current mood, which I will post here.
HEAVEN-HAVEN
A nun takes the veil
I have desired to go
Where springs not fail,
To fields where flies no sharp and sided hail
And a few lilies blow.
And I have asked to be
Where no storms come,
Where the green swell is in the havens dumb,
And out of the swing of the sea.
[Photo taken just outside our side door where I keep a Milkweed patch for all the butterflies and insects it draws. I know. Many of you don't like to look at pictures of insects. These little Milkweed Beetles are harmless, except to the Milkweed.]
